I have seldom read a book that caused me to sob. This book was masterfully, and uniquely written from the point of view of the dog, and the points of view of the humans and the owner. The reason for the family getting the dog for Peter was because he needed a friend following an accident that nearly took his life, and did take the life of his friend. He chose Sunny (Sunset) from a shelter, and Sunny helped the little boy heal as he gave his unconditional love and devotion. The real uniqueness of the novel was the telling from the dog's point of view. I recently had to have my dog put to sleep and I sobbed so, the poor vet didn't know what to do. Dogs are truly a gift of God - man's best friends, and they do, as Ms. Musser said, help us understand more fully God's unconditional love for us. If I ever own another dog, it will be with a keener awareness of that dog's love for me, and his desire to protect me and watch over me as his owner. Thank you for a lovely story that is a five-star book in every way!Product details

I truly loved this story and really wanted to share it with all my friends, especially those with dogs. The title is perfect for the story. Highly recommend this powerful story for all readers.
Waiting for Peter was a great book. It was wrote from two different view points each looking at the same event. I highly recommend it if you love dogs and ever wonder what they are possibly thinking. In some chapters you will recognize having be in the same spot or time. Wonderful book to consider for anyone.
Awesome read from both the human & dogs point of view. I've never read a more compelling story. We often feel as if our pet is more than a pet but our best friend. To read how he is feeling waiting for Peter just adds to the excitement of the book. I would highly recommend this book. Even if you aren't a pet lover, you may be by the time you finish this.
Elizabeth has written through her eyes as human and as Sonny the dog. If you are a pet owner and lover you will not be able to get through this tale without tears. I have spent time with Elizabeth and her family and played with Beau ( Sonny ),so the story was very real to me and personal. Waiting for Peter is worth reading whether you cry through it or not.
For pet lovers this is a very good story that incorporates some life lessons. I found it enjoyable and it is a good gift for a grandchild.
Heart wrenching and heartwarming are the two things that come to mind when considering this book. The first because I have a dog that I have raised from a pup. And I love Ewok the way Peter loved Sunny. And I have been contemplating his passing. So this book touched me dwell y. The latter because she does such a good job of portraying life with a dog. I loved the way she wove the CHRIST lessons into the lessons Sunny had to learn!
If you are a Christian and a dog-lover, you are going to enjoy this book. The author was a missionary so she brings that depth to the writing. It's an unusual book in that it is told from two viewpoints the mother of the boy, Peter, and from Peter's dog, Sunny, a rescue who ended up saving his boy more than once. That's all I'm going to tell you other than my heart was touched, and I cried and cried at the end. Not mushy, but just well written.
